Penalties for violations of EU sanctions are getting tougher

Jānis Ciguzis, head of the AML and sanctions practice group, has gathered information on the number of initiated criminal proceedings in 2022 and 2023 in a consolidated manner, as well as reflected the actual penalties applied to natural persons, as well as the means of coercive influence applied to legal persons. The judgments of the first instance court analyzed in the publication show that more and more severe penalties are applied for violations of EU sanctions.
